Manager & Licensee

Having completed a BA (Hons) in Business Studies and having worked in all areas of the hospitality industry Murrie took on the Green Tree in 2006.
James Venis 

Management Team

James has worked at the Green Tree for over 20 years.  He and Murrie married in 2009 and now run the pub together. 
 
Tracey Davison

Supervisor 

Tracey has worked at the Green Tree for nearly 25 years! Her experience is invaluable and she remains an integral part of the team.
Amy Hannah 

Team Leader 

Amy joined the team back 2017.  Her hard work and dedication has seen her recently promoted to Team Leader.

Our Story

Your hosts and caretakers for 15 years the Hopson / Venis family would like to welcome you to The Green Tree 1727 at Tudhoe Village.


Our beautiful Dalestone inn has been an eating and drinking house for over 290 years! The year that saw King James II asscend the throne and the death of Sir Isaac Newton. It would be another 50 years until America would gain independence from the British.


Over the years we’ve had a few visiting celebrities. Martin Shaw spent some time here filming scenes for ‘Inspector George Gently’ and ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ contestant and presenter Martin Roberts joined us for lunch whilst filming scenes in the village for ‘Homes Under The Hammer’


Spennymoor born Anne Wood the creator of ‘The Teletubbies’, ‘In The Night Garden’ and ’Rosie and Jim’ filmed here during an interview for the BBC and American movie star Kim Cattral who traced her Grandfather back to Spennymoor enjoyed cod and chips here whilst filming scenes for the series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’

About us

Often referred to as 'one of the best kept secrets in Durham', picturesque Tudhoe village is a quiet backwater, where on the village green you’ll find the family run Green Tree 1727 Country Pub and Restaurant. A beautiful 293 year-old dalestone inn, only 4 miles from Durham City.
