SHINE 2008 " - Great news ! The Green Tree has been shortlisted along with three other Northern Regional finalists to go forward to Punch Taverns 2008 "SHINE" National awards.The announcement of the winner of the Regional Finals will be announced soon at a prestigious awards lunch. This is both a fantastic acheivement and accolade for The Green Tree for which we say a huge big Thank You to all our staff and customers !

DeeExpus Project - The Green Tree is very pleased to play host to the very talented DeeExpus who are holding a "Listening Party" to commence the launch of their brand new album "Half Way Home". DeeExpus has been the solo project for a number of years of Andy Ditchfield, a Songwriter and Peripatetic Musician , based here in County Durham. A chance reunion with old friend and singer Tony Wright however, led to DeeExpus expanding into two people for the first time. Space is limited at The Green Tree and tickets are by invite only, so check out the DeeExpus website for details. Oh no ,the British summer strikes again and big style too!
We all agree that this summer 's weather has been "Challenging" Well it became even more challenging today when a severe one hour down pour sent a torrent of rain water through The Green Tree soaking everything. So much so we 've had to cancel the eagerly awaited Beer Festival and close while the clean - up takes place.
Now the good news ! every cloud has a silver lining ( yes - pun intended ) ,We'll be working very hard during the forthcoming few weeks and we'll be re-opening with a new lounge and bar reburbishment, new signage , carpark resurfacing, and extensive redecoration both inside and out and a brand new menu, !

The Sunday Night Quiz - 8:00 pm, Sunday 19 October 2008 sees the return of the popular Sunday night quiz at The Green Tree with the emphasis on fun to beat away those recession blues. There will be cash and other prizes as well as free chip butties , so why not come along and just show us how clever you are !

A Spooky Halloween Party - Come along to a well spooky evening at the 281 year old Green Tree Country Pub. Come in fancy dress and join in the fun we've got prizes for the best costume and the sexiest witch Oscar, as well as our special Halloween quiz and live music ! Last year we had a fantastic evening and this one looks even better. It all starts at 6:30 pm!
NB This spooky little guy actually dances better than me.

DVD Shoot ! At the begining of a very busy forthcoming year for DeeExpus, which includes gigs in the UK and Poland . DeeExpus have decided to chronicle their year with a DVD recording events as they unfold. Recording of the DVD started in earnest with a "fly on the wall " interview with band members, where else than the bar here at The Green Tree !

Amazing! Kim Cattrell calls in at The Green Tree for lunch - Following weeks of planning actress Kim Cattrall, Golden Globe winner, Hollywood actress and star of Sex and the City called in at The Green Tree-1727, for lunch ( please see web page - Kim Cattrell ). Miss Catrell was filming the final episode of the BBC's popular series "Who Do You Think You Are"
It was a lovely afternoon and Miss Cattrell thanked The Green Tree for an "Amazing Afternoon"

Love is in the Air Well - unless you've been living on Mars recently , Murrie & James have been making marital arrangements. Murrie got off the blocks first this Saturday with the very first of 3 no. Epic Hen do's ( See pic for an idea of the scale of this absolutely monumental operation) .
Saturday 15 August 09 James plumbed for an "open barn" camping, activity, beer and Beatles based, Coo Coo a Joo( sure I've spelled that wrong) tour of the Lakes, based at Rookin House http://www.rookinhouse.co.uk/ .
We counted them out and counted them back Thanks to all who went, making it a great fun Stag weekend for James

The bride was absolutely stunning the groom looked handsome, Auckland Castle was mighty impressive, one of the hottest September days on record and everyone turned up and had the "Best of Days" only one thing to say - Congratulations Murrie & James !
Sunday 18 October 09 We held a fun Race Night in aid of Cancer Research UK. There were some dodgy nags ( Dusty Carpet - it will take some beating !ouch ...) and some dodgy bets. All in all we raised £520 for this very worthy cause. Thank you to all who came along to make this a great fun evening.
Saturday 31 October 09 It's The Green Tree's annual charity Halloween Party ! and this year it's in aid of Motor Neurone Disease. It's all about fun so dress up and bring the kids along. There will be face painting, spooky games, hot dogs and prizes. Come on it's all about fun and helping an excellent charity too It all starts at 6:30 pm! Update - Once again another great evening for all the children, family and friends who came along and enjoyed a "silly" evening while raising £255:00 in aid if MND - Motor Neurone Disease !

The Annual Charity Lunch The organisers of this year’s event, Adam Walker and Scott Miller, are themselves both veterans who have served 5 and 4 years respectively. They were handed the organisational reins by the former organiser, Sam Stoker. The lunch was attended by 61 gentlemen hosted excellent 'side splitting' entertainment by comedian and former member of the Grumble Weeds, Tony Joe. A raffle, auction and presentation outlining the work of Help for Heroes was given by Gulf War and Northern Ireland veteran, Pete Molloy which raised a stunning £2,094.25 !!!!!
Tuesday 2 March 10 The BBC & The Teletubbies come to The Green Tree ! The Green Tree was host yet again to the BBC as they set up their cameras to film a part of a documentary about Anne Wood CBE. Anne was born in Spennymoor and is best known as the creator of successful children's programmes such as the Teletubbies and most recently In the Night Garden, which won a BAFTA Children's award. Anne and the crew enjoyed lunch at The Green Tree and signed our visitors book wishing that “The Green Tree will bloom for ever !”
Saturday 24 April 10 Come along to The Green Tree and celebrate a family fun packed St Georges Day. For the kids we'll have : Bouncy Castle in the Beer Garden - 12:00 til 6:00 pm. Face Painting throughout the day. While Ladies why not pamper yourself with some retail therapy while leaving your big kid at our safe and supervised "Man Creche" where we will have : The 1966 World Cup Final - 2:00pm The 2003 Rugby World Cup Final - 4:00pm Pie and Peas & a Pint of John Smiths £5 Refreshing Bombardier Real Ale Karaoke - 7:30pm You know it makes sense ! Fund raising will take place throughout the day with all donations being in support of the worthy Help for Heroes charity. See you there ! Update - What a great day and probably the sunniest this year. We collected £120:00 contributions which will be donated to the Help for Heroes charity. Thank you to everyone who came along to make this a great family fun day.
June - World Cup 2010 World Cup fever has taken it's grip here at The Green Tree so much so we've bought a new telly ! ! !Yes after many years of faithful service we've agreed to return our old t.v. to John Logie Baird ( thanks John , does anyone know where he lives these days ?) It's arrived and we're kicking and screaming into the 17th Century with a brand new High Definition wide screen t.v. - and all in time for our pending victory in the 2010 World Cup.

Well done everyone, this years winners were Faye Bell and David "Galla" Galloway. Faye is obviously the Lady and Galla came as Papa Lazarou...."do you want to buy some pegs Dave ?"

We are hosting a ladies day fund raising event on Monday 30th July 2012 from 2pm for SANDS ( Stillbirth and neo-natal death society).
The event will commence at 2pm with a wine and cheese tasting session hosted by Stowells World of wine and the Green Tree with the opportunity to taste a variety of their wines while being entertained by Michael Buble tribute star, Mr. David Ball.
There will be a variety of “Home party” stalls including Virgin Vie, The Body Shop, Avon, Silpada Jewellery, Scentsy candles etc. These companies have all pledged a variety of excellent raffle prizes.
Tickets cost £10 which includes a glass of wine, a raffle ticket and donation to this fantastic charity
WELL DONE !!!
